In a fresh report, claimed 22.6 per cent increase in the passenger traffic in response to slowly improving conditions of the financial market. Dubai International Airport saw 3.64 million people using its services during the period indicating surge in commercial and tourism activities.

The airport recorded monthly passenger traffic of over 3.8 million in January and total throughput has been increased to 19.7% to 7,501,848 led by passengers from Western Europe, the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East. The robust performance in February is also attributed to increase in capacity by many airlines operating in the region.

Paul Griffiths, the CEO of the airport, said, "We were the fastest growing major international airport in 2009 and the figures so far this year is very encouraging. With economic activity picking up globally, Emirates set to launch a number of exciting new routes and the summer travel season fast-approaching."

Cargo traffic at the airport rose 26.7% reflecting rise in business confidence and commercial activities in the region.

Meanwhile, InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and Ishraq Gulf Real Estate Holding Co have launched a 381-room hotel the Holiday Inn Express at the airport that offers range of facilities including power showers and satellite TV in every room, wireless internet access, laundry services and many more facilities.
